1st purchase good gun shops in or near nyc
Can anyone recommend a gun shop in either NYC or the outlying areas?
I'm looking to purchase my first shotgun. Gun recommendations would be appreciated as well. Also ammo descriptions would help me as well. What would be the best ammo type just for home protection? Are there variations in range with, say, slugs vs buckshot? |

No help on a gun shop.
But there are lots of threads on GIM regarding best home defense shotgun. Run a search. Lots of people recommend a Reminton 870 with an 18 inch barrel. Buy 00 buckshot or up to #4 buckshot. It is all good. |

No offense, but if total SHTF in NYC, you will need more than a shotgun to save your skin.
With that being said, 12 gauge pump or semi-auto would seem to be the way to go. |

I can not vouch for any of these places. Call and see what they offer.

I've beefed up security to my home, locking steel gates front and back is the first line of defense. I've coated my windows with 3m film to make them somewhat stronger. I ordered my windows with a reflective coating so you cannot see in from the outside. I have stainless steel bars on the windows that are easily accessible, and stainless steel security doors. The door frames are attached to masonry. I also have video cameras. Next is gun/ammo, and I'm seriously considering a dog. |

A pooch is a MUST for what is coming. Even if you get a pip squeak .A dogs bark is worth all the trouble of walking and feeding. There was at least 2 times I got alerted to something that would have caught me flatfooted if my pooch wasnt sounding off. I dont know what your daily and work routine is (as it will change DRASTICALLY with a dog) but you really need to understand it is like adopting a kid. That being said they are hard work but truth be told it is more that worth it. Your dog will give up his life to protect you. .........think about that. People wont or will think twice but your will do it without hesitation. Also you got to get a shelter dog..... Animal shelters are busrting at the seems because people didnt understand what they were getting into and so the animal has to pay the price for there stupidity If you are going to do it Give one of them a home........it is the strangest thing. Shelters dogs are extremley loyal because somehow they know they got a second chance. Do some research and get cracking :ok: |

If you plan to make no effort to leave New York City, cyanide tablets would be a better investment than a gun.
I'm not trying to be a smart-ass; it's just that nowhere on the Island or the general surrounding area will be defensible for anyone if all hell breaks loose. You've GOT TO go upstate, or better, leave the state. |

I would not use any in NYC head into Nassau T&T Tactical on Jericho Turn Pike is a good place I deal with Stan. Also T&T in Seaford on Merrick Road has a bit more inventory due to size and a great group of guys Marty who is partners with Stan (above) and Hank who is Stans son.

You're gonna want toe poppers, and claymores. Stock up on the cold packs, pure acetone, hydrogen peroxide, battery acid, muriatic acid, hexamine tablets... actually: never mind. You're better off with scuba gear/raft cause escape to a weapons stockpile by water seems like the most practical solution to NYC SHTF. Maybe stow away in a shipping container. Massage parlors might be a good place to look for a coyote to ship your ass, but trusting your life to one of those guys is an act of desperation if I've heard one. Living there, and storing your PMs/weapons stockpile there aren't the same thing. If you can't carry it while running from the cops, your ownership of any belongings is in jeopardy in a SHTF scenario so long as it's in city limits. Hide them someplace safe and accessible in the middle of nowhere. |

One problem with a big dog like the Bull Mastiff or Great Dane is their short lifespan. I think they usually only live about 7 years. Too short - I'd get awfully tired of losing my dog so quickly. |
